Firstly let me introduce myself, I am Belinda and I am one of the Castle Mall ‘Real People’. My daughter, Jasmine and I entered the competition as a team as something nice to do together and have really enjoyed the project so far.
As part of my role representing Castle Mall shoppers the team at the centre invited me to go along to their new restaurant, Cocina, so I could tell you all what it is like, so off I went!
On Wednesday 17th January, my husband and I visited Cocina’s in Timberhill Terrace which is the new restaurant area of Castle Mall. This was our first visit and we were impressed with the décor, it had a real Mexican feel. We loved the mix of bright bold colours and rustic furniture. The music was in keeping with the Mexican theme, loud enough to hear without being intrusive.
The menu included a good selection of traditional Mexican dishes with a modern twist and their delicate spicing means that there are plenty of meals for people with quieter tastes. ?
Our waiter Jack, was very friendly and helpful, answering our many questions about the food and informing us of which dishes were spicy and which were not. He also gave us a taster of Cassava fries because we had never tried it. They were very nice! ?
My Husband started with Empanadas with Chimichurri, which are crispy pastries stuffed with either beef picadillo or vegetable chilli, mixed peppers & onions and Monterey Jack cheese. Drizzled with a chimichurri sauce. He thought the dish was very interesting, with lots of different textures and not too spicy.I had Crunchy Tostilocos to start, which are crunchy corn bites served with a chamoy dipping sauce. I liked the crunchiness and the sauce had a little kick to it.
For main my husband had Pulled Chipotle Beef Burrito with a side of sweet potato fries. He doesn’t like spicy food so this was perfect for him, but still had lots of flavour. My main was Pollo de Limon. the chicken was very tasty and although I normally don’t like mayonnaise I found this one very nice.
All dishes were very well presented and the portion sizes were more than enough.
We really enjoyed our food and will certainly be returning for the two cocktails for £8.00! ?
Belinda was given a £20 voucher towards her meal at Cocina, but all her views are her own.
