Hi everyone, Belinda here, one of Castle malls Real People. I always get excited when Castle mall get in touch and this time was no different. They asked me to try the new summer menu at Cocina. 😋

I have visited Cocina lots of times and always enjoyed it, but hadn’t tried the new summer menu. I wasn’t sure they could improve it, so was pleasantly surprised.

My husband and I shared two of the tapas dishes as a starter. The Halloumi fries were very tasty and I’m happy to say not a bit greasy. They come with a spicy dipping sauce that compliments them perfectly. The other tapas was King prawn skewers, these were also very enjoyable.

My husband had the Lime and quinoa salad with extra prawns as a main. He said it had a really nice texture with a burst of salty feta cheese and the beetroot and quinoa worked well together. I had the Cocina chicken burger. This had a large chicken breast with fajita seasoning and salad, topped with sweet pepper jam and a guac crema. My main also came with chipotle slaw and a side of either Mexican seasoned skin-on fries or sweet potato fries. I choose the sweet potato fries and they were yummy as was the burger, and the nicest sweet potato fries we’ve had in a long time.

I wasn’t going to have dessert but really love churros (who doesn’t?) and they now do four different churro desserts with ice cream and extras. But on reading the menu I couldn’t resist a dessert called Churrini. This is tequila, chocolate fudge sauce, whipped cream, sprinkles and a churro. It starts off being a lovely sweet dessert and then you reach the bottom and the tequila! It was wonderful, I nearly asked for a straw so I didn’t leave any.

To drink my husband had a corona and I would normally have had a cocktail, but as it was warm I thought I would try a mocktail. I picked a virgin strawberry mojito. It was so tasty, as good as a cocktail but no alcohol. I especially liked the glass it came in, which was overflowing with strawberries.

Our waitress, Eva, was very friendly and chatty, checking on us regularly to make sure everything was good. In fact, all the front of house staff made the meal special.

As it was a hot evening the large sliding windows at the front of the restaurant were open. Which meant as well as a wonderful view of the castle and gardens, we had a lovely breeze and a feeling of dining al fresco.

All in all a lovely evening and we will be returning for some of the great cocktails that we love.

Love Belinda
