AVO burrito bar is open!

AVO burrito bar is open, serving up healthy protein-packed take-outs

Avo brings s a healthy and protein-packed taste of Mexico to Castle Quarter.

Lovers of Mexican-Cali style street food can now enjoy freshly prepared burritos, alongside locally brewed beer from Redwell, sides and desserts at our new eatery called AVO which opened on Thursday 20th January.

Located next to the Murderers pub on Timberhill, just outside the main Castle Quarter shopping centre, customers can find delicious burritos on the AVO menu, described by the owner as perfectly formed packages of protein. The ideal fuel for anyone who might be upping their exercise regime in the new year.

AVO is a new concept that has been created by owner and entrepreneur Richard Watts from Norwich, and offers a menu of healthy, simple, on-the-go dishes, each one packed with goodness and flavour, and all created with locally sourced ingredients.

After developing his own secret burrito recipe, Richard originally planned to launch AVO in the summer of 2021, but like so many, his plans were put on hold during the pandemic. A few months on and he is now living out a personal dream of launching his very own burrito bar.

Born in Canada, Richard moved to Norwich at an early age, and has also lived in Trinidad & Tobago. His travels have also taken him around South America, experiencing all kinds of flavours, food, and cultures. His travels and passion for global flavours have heavily inspired his ideas for AVO and given this entrepreneur the push to set up a city-centre food outlet offering deliciously light Mexican-inspired meals to complement a healthy, fitness-focused lifestyle.

Richard says, “We want to bring simple to eat but delicious, protein packed light meals to people who are short on time but looking for highly nutritious foods that suit their energetic lives. We’re offering tasty to-go burritos, as well as homemade salsa, guacamole, flavoured rice, and mouthwatering marinades. My friends and family have been testing the menu with great feedback. And now I can’t wait to start serving customers for real and finding out what people think of our food.”

“Castle Quarter is the ideal location for us to launch from, as it already attracts passing shoppers and brings us an extra boost as soon as we open. Plus, there’s parking available and it’s in the heart of the city, surrounded by other businesses too with a real community, supportive feel.”

Not dismayed by the opening delays, Richard says the pause due to the pandemic has given him valuable extra planning time. “I have been working in renewable energy whilst working on the launch plans for AVO and have been very fortunate to have worked full-time during the pandemic. Now it’s the right time to get this burrito business off the ground and I’m excited to finally open up.”

Avo will be offering 10% off their burritos for students and Pure Gym members on Thursdays.

Rob Bradley, centre manager at Castle Quarter says: “AVO is a brilliant new food offering for our visitors, especially with Richard’s focus on nutritious, on-the-go meals. We have Pure Gym in the centre too, so it’s perfect for anyone looking for a post-workout healthy and filling takeaway. AVO is the latest in independent businesses choosing to launch at Castle Quarter; something we’re really proud of.  AVO is a fantastic example of entrepreneurial drive meeting local demand, and a resilience and determination to bring something fresh and new to Norwich. We’re confident our Castle Quarter visitors are going to love trying out Richard’s delicious Mexican-inspired menu and grab a burrito on the go next time they’re in the city.”
